We live in a time and culture where everyone has a platform and an audience. Like no other time in history, we can be heard by thousands globally, in mere minutes. Pair this with the polarizing political, religious, education, or lifestyle topics of the day, and you have a hotbed of division. It’s easy to stand behind an online presence and pound out a judgment on a current issue, indignant from our own personal prejudice and expectations. We want to stand for something, make a difference, change the world. There is nothing wrong with this desire to make the world a better place. But in our current climate, with the current methods in play, it feels loud, chaotic, suffocating.
I want to escape social media. Avoid the conflict. Create a space of peace. I wonder… Can we not do great things when we choose to simply love? Quietly love? What if our heated opinions don’t need to be aired? What if we scrolled past the drama and politics without getting involved, what if we used social media to check in and support each other, regardless of our leanings on various topics? What if we changed our communities, one heart at a time, by sharing gratitude and vulnerability; what would our world look like then? We each have the power within us to affect change, and I think it starts with love. Always love. The Beatles were onto something.

I’ve been thinking about this very thing. A lot. Thanks for sharing these thoughts.
